A 19th century betel nut pliers/scissors from Indonesia, also called pinang scissors.
The scissors were used to pieces of betel nut (areca catechu) cut, so that one could chew on it.
In Indonesia the chew is called the "Sirih-Pinang".
The betel nut is popular for its stimulating effect.
This large scissors are heavy and have a beautiful appearance, most likely containing a depiction of a deity from the mythology of the far East.
Material: bronze/brass.
