The two bronzes are signed H.MOREAU the two bronzes and bases are in perfect condition. Height with base: 13 cm. Base 13 cm x 8 cm x 2 cm. Weight of one piece: 0.800 kilograms. Perfect condition. Francois, known as Hippolyte, was the second son of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau and was formed in his father's workshop. With his two brothers, Mathurin and Auguste, he moved to Paris to follow the teaching of François Jouffroy at the school of fine arts. From 1863 to 1914, he exhibited at the Salon of french artists where he sent decorative subjects often inspired by the 18th century. He won a medal at the Exposition universelle of 1878 and another at the Exposition universelle of 1900. He mainly produced works of a medium size and decorative or conventional objects: vases, statuettes, letter openers, catch all bowls in bronze, spelter or tin. He is the author of the statue of Alexis Claude Clairaut (1880) on one of the facades of City Hall in Paris, rue de Lobau. Most of his works are preserved at the Museum of fine arts in Dijon.
