Helmet ‘Zischägge' or also known as 'Lobster Tail' - first half of the 17th century
This type of helmet, called a Zischägge or also known as Lobster Tail occurred at the beginning of the 17th century in many Western European armies (especially in England, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland).
It is a type of helmet that was used in particular by cavalry units.
The helmet pot is forged from a piece of metal and has a neck protector which consists of 4 hinged plates. Also the ear-protection plates are still present (these are from the same period but later added to this helmet).
The blackened surface is original and served as protection (including corrosion but also to avoid reflection).
This original helmet for its age of ca. 380 years is in very good condition.
The height is 25 cm., the largest cross section of the helmet pot is 23 cm.
The weight is approx. 1.500 grams.
