The history of Fortis goes back as far as 1912, when Walter Vogt founded the company in the Swiss Grenchen. The Fortis name does not become well-known until 1926, when the company starts mass-production of the Harwood, the worlds first automatically winding watch. In 1943 Fortis was one of the Swiss brands with most high-quality know-how. In addition to producing very precise mechanical chronographs Fortis showed their technical ability by the production of the first waterproof watches with automatic movements.
