SALVATORE FIUME - odalisca
Born in Comiso, Sicily, on 23rd October 1915, he was a painter, sculptor, architect, writer and set designer. At the age of sixteen, thanks to a scholarship, he acceded the Regio Istituto d'Arte del Libro in Urbino, where he acquired a deep knowledge of the printing techniques: lithography, serigraphy, etching and woodcut. In 1936, after finishing his studies, he went to Milan where he met artists and intellectuals including Salvatore Quasimodo, Dino Buzzati and Raffaele Carrieri, with whom he became friends. In 1993 Fiume visited the Gauguin sites in Polynesia and, as a tribute to the great French master, he donated one of his paintings to the Gauguin Museum in Tahiti. He died in Milan on 3rd June 1997.
