Cloisonné clock - Late 20th century

A beautiful enamel brass clock. Cloisonné technique and on both sides completely enamelled. There's a beautiful enamel painted decoration of a bird on branches on both sides. The timepiece works as it should. Cloisonné is a technique of enamelling, in which flattened wire is attached to a metal surface in certain motifs or patterns. This can be done with glue, but can also be done after first applying a layer of enamel, then applying the thread, and then the object is heated in the oven wherein the wire melts partially into the layer of enamel. The interstices between the pieces of wire are covered with different colours of enamel powder. The flattened wire prevents that the colours blend into each other during the heating of the enamel. Each colour is separated and trapped in its own cell. This form of art was already used in the 5th century BC and was widely used in Byzantine architecture. China is now the main country producing these. In the Netherlands, some enamellers apply the technique in their works of art. (Source: Wikipedia) Measurements: Height: 21 cm Width: 13.5 cm Depth: 8 cm The photos are part of the description. This lot will be well packaged and shipped by registered post.
